Cyclic is my ongoing Software instrument series. The project has two core aims - To build an accesible (to anyone) user interface for instant musical composition and to build an interface that allows for the creation of infinite non-linear music.
The Software is currently at v.2.2 on Mac OS X and the Windows version currently in beta at v.2.0 as there are some fixes that I will need to make in the near future. The software features four channels of audio playback which you can control individually, each channel has a low-pass filter and can be sent to a reverb mix (not yet available on windows version). It also has a record function!
Cyclic is music software built and compiled using Max/MSP 5 and Jitter
Known Bugs:
Mac OS X
I have found one bug which is easily fixable, on some machines If you open Cyclic and the sound drivers aren’t configured, changing them and then turning audio on causes the app to crash. To fix this, open Cyclic up, go to the help menu, configure the sound drivers to the desired settings, THEN QUIT the application and open it back up. It should now run fine!
Windows XP
I haven’t been able to extensively test Cyclic on Windows yet, I have one report that suggests there are some administrative problems (where some files are locked due to access rights) apparently this is fixed by simply right-clicking the .exe file and opening it as administrator
If you discover any further bugs please post a message on the topic board and I will do my best to provide a fix or solution!

For the finals of my BA I built a hardware interface for Cyclic using the Arduino platform linked up to Max. Visuals were back projected onto a large screen it it looked and sounded real nice! This hardware installation was titled ‘Stasis’. The interface was made up of knobs and sliders and a light dependent resistor that gave a theremin style control over a master low-pass filter! Fun!

Intuitive Controls

Immersive Media
I will eventually create another installation of Stasis, but I want to learn more about expanding the Arduino platform before I do this, I had to make too many sacrifices the first time round through my lack of capability. I want to create a interface that is compact and looks more like its software equivalent.
